How the Contest Works

  1. Some devotees volunteer as judges
For a $25 donation, anyone 12 years of age or older can be a judge.
(There are only 24 Judges so register early)
  2. Anyone Can Enter the Contest
providing they are Vegan / Vegetarian and follow these Rules of Cooking found under “Contest Rules”
  3. Register Your Offering(s)
Bring your prepared offerings to the registration table located in the Temple  between 11:30am – 12:30pm on the Saturday January 31st where you can register and enter it in the contest.
You can enter it under any one of 11 categories.
It will then be offered to Lord Nityananda and then served to the judges.
  4. Serving the Preparations
As the the special servers serve each preparation, to the judges, they will say to the judges a name and a number of each preparation.

The name will be a name of the Lord and a number only.

Neither the servers nor the judges will know who made the prep or which category it falls under.

The judges will then taste a sample of each prep and mark their score in the appropriate box on the score sheet.

No score less than 5 is accepted to avoid the pitfall of finding fault with prasadam.

5 means “Good” and 10 means “You’ll attain Krishna Prema” eating this prep.

After the judges are served there is often some left over which overflows to the general body of devotees so guests can honour some of the offerings. As there are usually many preparations everyone gets to taste some of the special prasadam but only the judges get to taste all the preparations.

  5. Tallying the Scores
After all the preps are served and the score sheets are completed, the sheets are given to an anonymous person to tally the scores.
The tally person does not know who made the particular preparation.
After the scores are tallied they are given to another anonymous person who then matches the scores with the main registration sheet to determine who the winners are.
  6. The Winners
There is a first place winner in each of the 11 categories and overall first, second and third place medal winners and finally an overall winner who wins the prestigious Nectar Cup.
